The second book in K.F. Breene’s Warrior series keeps the fast-paced spirit of the first book, while also giving some deeper insight.

The book continues where the first book left off – with Shanti being on the run, but plagued by uncertainty that only grows when the rumors of another self-proclaimed Chosen spring up. It also brings a reunion with one of her people, along with an enigmatic stranger coveted by the enemy, with an interesting skill set.

Unfortunately, Shanti’s original plan, to draw the enemy away from the friends she’s made in the first book, doesn’t last long. With the enemy’s hunter, a powerful lieutenant hell-bent on capturing them, she has no other option than to backtrack and rejoin her friends in hopes of standing together against the enemy’s elites.

Shanti’s brother and the stranger she encounters all have their own powers, and together, they come along nicely to create a strong team – while they might be weaker than the Hunter individually, together and working as a team, they’re a force to be reckoned with. Shanti also gains some welcome support on a journey that clearly won’t be easy, and the story goes deeper than the first book into the folklore of her people and how her resistance impacts the general populace in dire need of a symbol of hope. And it’s this fact that creates opportunities for some small but very welcome help for Shanti and her team.

Saying more would be risking spoilers, so that’s where I’ll wrap this short commentary up.

So far, it’s quite a fast-paced and enjoyable series, and I’m sure I’ll continue onwards to book three.
