4/2024 Summary

April had been a colorful life in many aspects. Let’s have a look at some.

The first day wasn’t exactly up to plan – I wanted to utilize Easter Monday (a public holiday here) for hiking, but when I woke up, I heard the wind howling like mad, which led me to cancel the “bonus” hike. Instead, I turned it into a day of relaxation. During the first week, I managed to read a bit, but I was repeatedly stopped by the same problem that’s been halting me the past few months: my aging Kindle. Hitting the 8-year mark in March, the battery was having issues for a while – display not matching the actual charge (and shutting off at 20-25%), charge being depleted quite fast even when not in use, and similar problems.

In addition to that, I was being drowsy after my hikes and had repeatedly fallen asleep while reading on the train. Anyway, as for the problem of the aging Kindle, after two years of repeated consideration and delays, I finally ordered a new one in mid-April as a delayed present for my birthday.

I also managed to keep up with my hiking – which proved how fickle and varied can April be.

The first week was still somewhat windy, the second week was very warm (reaching 25°C), only to be followed by a sharp temperature drop during the third week, when my third hike of the month was, in fact, in rain and snow showers. Unfortunately, in the lower hills, the snow didn’t last.

Snow showers during the night and early morning even reached the town here in the lowlands and I was getting my hopes up for some snowy late-April photos… only for the weather to jump back up to 20+ temperatures, which means most of the snow melted even in the hills. I will, as usual, return with more stories and photos from those hikes soon (likely in mid-May).

It was during this time I got my new Kindle, and had to figure out how to bulk download some of my favorite books in case I’d be without an internet connection someday.

As a bit of good news, I also got a promotion at work valid from May – though, until someone takes the lower position, that affects nothing on my tasks aside from a small raise. Well, at least something.

So, that’s a quick rundown of my April. I do hope that May will be calmer, and good in most aspects.

  1. Congrats on the promotion and the new Kindle, Tom.

My Kindle is few years old now too, but I usually use the Kindle app on my phone instead because then I can get my phone to read the book to me while I walk.
