The third book of the Sparks trilogy promises a conclusion to this action-packed story, and works out quite well.

In the first book, Aimee went through the harsh training to become a dragon rider. In the second, she scoured her hometown for clues about how to stop an army invading her town – not the army of humans, but Empty Warriors – magical constructs with no emotions, just the desire to carry out their master’s plan. Now, it’s time to find those solutions. Unfortunately, the ancient artifact she found at the end of the second book isn’t enough, and it might be more trouble than it’s worth.
Thus, she and her two friends set out to find their ancient founder, who has since resorted to secluded living in another part of the world. Racing against time, they manage to find Kyelli and bring her back to Kierell, only to see that things aren’t as simple as they hoped. The Empty Warriors can only be stopped by their creator, and while Kyelli had once created some, those aren’t hers. She recognizes the face they bear, though, and thus reveals a darker part of the backstory.
When Kyelli and her people were almost destroyed by their own creations, she and her father fled their original land. However, there was one more person who was intended to go with them, someone who was delayed and thus believed dead. And six centuries had turned him bitter enough to want to see the city Kyelli founded turned to ash in revenge.
Aimee needs to not only learn to control the power of the artifact, but also to find the Master of Sparks and deal with him. Which brings many challenges from both within and from outside, and has its cost.

My highlights
This series, including this particular book, has a great pacing and good bits of lighthearted humor, as well as a major touch of optimism and hope, which are key elements to enjoying a book for me. There’s one more book, a follow-up, happening a couple of years after the trilogy, that I’m going to read next.
