5/2025 Summary

This year’s May was quite a strange month compared to what I’m used to. With its good and bad parts, as usual.

May tends to be quite active when it comes to hiking, with the spring in full swing and warmer days coming. The first part was true, the second, not so much. 2025 decided to give us May which ended up being colder than the last few years, with chilly mornings throughout most of the month, aside from the very few first and last days.

As usual, I’ll cover the details in a separate post, but to give a quick summary: I took my sister on a hike returning to a place we visited some time ago and wanted to see again. I went for a hiking weekend in an area I haven’t been to yet with the hiking club, and then I had two more one-day hikes in the rest of the month. As I said, most were with colder mornings, so choosing the right clothing was sometimes a challenge.

My reading progress was a bit better this month – I finished one book I started in April and its sequel (review coming soon), both of which were on the longer end, and started another, so I should see some progress. I’m roughly on track with my reading goals for the year (as long as Goodreads doesn’t troll me with the counter).

When it comes to writing, May wasn’t as good as April, partially because the hiking weekend and some other things that needed my attention cut into my opportunities. I managed to edit a couple of scenes and find some other areas in need of improvement, though getting specific ideas for some of them might take a while. I think the direction I took with some of the March and April rewrites is good, though those scenes will need further work as well. Right now, I’m thinking about some “background work” such as going through the whole story and re-drawing the story’s timeline to check on consistency after all the minor changes done over the last 7 months, as well as the draft before my long hiatus. And maybe making a list of details that need to be added about some minor characters.

So, that’s a quick review of the last month. I hope that June will get us some warmth – which would probably do wonders for my motivation. And I wish a good June to you as well.
