While there are still two days left in the month (and year), I think I can afford to look back at December already.
This December was a bit strange month, in a way, though I guess it was in line with the three months before it. At the beginning of the month, I finally caught up and made the calculations for my hiking progress in the year, coming to the conclusion that I can still reach my long-term goal of hiking 1200km in one year, being just 3 hikes short. I went into more detail about that a week ago, so the long story short is that I finally managed that. I was considering another hike yesterday but decided to treat myself as a reward and stay home to focus on other hobbies as well as give myself a bit of rest before the next year starts.
As I said in the hiking post, the second hike of the month led to me having a light cold, which I managed to use for myself and other hobbies. I started another full re-read of a series I first read a couple of years ago and, as of writing this, I’m around half-way through the third book (out of four).
I also used the last of my vacation days and the holidays to write more, which was a pleasant surprise. I shared my thoughts on returning to writing after a long break in the beginning of the month but I can say I was surprised to find myself in 2-3 hours long sessions during which I went through over half of the story, implementing the ideas I had in summer and autumn and re-editing some scenes with more detail. However, I know it’s still going to take a lot of work – I’ll need to do a thorough check for consistency and things I might’ve missed, as well as sort out some smaller details. Still, while I have yet to regain the full joy I had for writing a few years ago, I’m feeling cautious optimism on this front.
With the end of the year almost on me, I’m also wondering what goals to set for myself for the next year, and how to balance them in a realistic way – something I’ll share soon.
I hope that December was kind to you, especially given the rush leading to the holidays, and that the next month – and year – will be a step in the right direction towards something better.
See you soon.
